A Very Special Christmas

Thank you Songkun for bringing me to your church.

For those that you know, I was going to spend this Christmas Eve at Ever Living Baptist Church. Frankly speaking I don't regret it.

The Church is situated at 28 kim keat road. It is situated close to a residential area. Frankly speaking, the church does not feel like any of the church that I saw in the movies. Instead, it had a simple and cosy feeling to it.

When I was there, they were having potluck. The pastor in charge is Pastor Lim. And I must say, this is a good dinner. They had pasta, curry chicken, fried bee hoon. I especially like the fountain that spew chocolate. They had things like marsh mallow and grapes for you to dip into it. The Christmas Log Tree is good as well.

I enjoyed the German Potatoes Salad too. The food there is good. Homecook, not those type of oily food you got from outside places. It was good healthy food.

At 1930 (or later) We went up the second level. There, the programme begins and we sang songs. Frankly speaking, I approach to buddhism so far has not prepared me for anything like this. I guess I almost cried when the songs begins, they were praising the Lord, Jesus and such.

One of their songs is this

Hark! the Herald Angels Sing

Hark! the herald Angels sing. "Glory to the new-born King"
Peace on earth, and mercy mild; God and sinners reconciled"
Joyful, all ye nations rise, Join the triumph of the skies
With angelic hosts proclaim, "Christ in born in Bethehem!"

Chorus:

Hark! the herald Angels sing. "Glory to the new-born King"

Christ, by highest heaven adored! Christ, the ever lasting Lord;
Late in time, behod Him come, Off spring of a virgin womb
Veiled in flesh the God-Head see, Hail th' incarnate Deity!
Pleased as man with men to dwell, Jesus our Immanuel.

Hail, the heav'n-born Prince of Peace! Hail the Son of righteousness
Light and life to all He brings, Risen with healing in His wings.
Mild He lays His glory by, Born that man no more may die.
Born to raise the sons of earth, Born to give them second birth,

Come, Desire of nations, come! Fix in us Thy humble home;
Rise, the woman's conquering seed, Bruise in us the serpent's head;
Adam's likeness new efface, Stamp Thine image in its place
Second Adam from above, Reinstate us in Thy love.

The feeling I got was a warm family feeling. It was as if a long lost son has found his father and reconciled with him. I guess it was a feeling that I seldom have or have kept suppressed. Man is an emotional creatures and to have feelings is Man. But I kept it suppressed for a long long time. My approach to Buddhism has been scholarly at times and faith based. It has given me inner-peace. But I guess Christianity gives me another feeling. I quite enjoy it, although at that time I was just suppressing myself to prevent myself to have an emotional outbreak (Crying, yes, I really feel like crying) . So I experienced Christianity. I guess I would go back to the Church to learn more about Christianity?

Hmmm... But I really need to arrange my time. Cause I am having things on sunday morning as well.

What is more that I learn more about Christmas. As Pastor Lim says, Christmas is not about Santa Claus, Not about Christmas tree. But to celebrate the Birth of Jesus Christ. As spoken by him, there were 2 sects of Christians. One believed that Jesus was born on the 25th of December and the believed that Jesus was born on the 6th of January. So in the end, the 12 days of Christmas ensured as the time difference between 25th of December and 6th of January is 12 days.

Why do we celebrate his birth? It is because he came down to die for the sins of Man so that man will have a second chance to be reunited with the Lord. According to my friend. The bible is a story about Man love Relationship with the Lord. It sound like an interesting read. Guess I will read it one day:)

Anyway, they have a gift exchange in the end. And Tianmi was very nice to pass me his ticket. I won a T-shirt for that. My friend Songkun probably won the best prize there, an alarm clock that can detects temperature, rings to the tune of a christmas carol and even have multiples LEDs in it which dance to the time. :)

Christmas is about sharing and giving. For this day, God give us his son. And his son die for our sins. So let's celebrate Christmas with a right attitude and mindfulness :)
