Dharma Talk By Hai Tao Fa Shi And Chuan Xi Fa Shi

Today talk was good. Very Good.

The title of the talk today is: Let The World Be Filled With Love.

Maybe we should talk a bit more about the talk.

Hai Tao Fa Shi starts by saying that before we can let the world be filled with love, we must know what is life first.

I love it when Hai Tao Fa Shi says that: "Man is only alive when he is with others, and interacting with others people. The Environment and the surrounding."

Our parents gave birth to us. And we are in turn indept to them for the gift of life. However, despite the fact that we are a living being, the fact is that we are living beings because of the the environment around us.

"Plants cannot survive without the sun, and even much so more, us humans. The Sun is the outer heart of ourselves. Water is the outer blood of us and the Earth is akin to the mother womb, for it is here that we grow and nuture."

Next, he go on and say about to let the world be filled with love, we must first view all sentient beings equally. This includes all friends and foes. There are no foes in this world. The only foe in this world is our attitude towards others.

It is only when we treat all equally as if they were out best friends. Then we have laid the foundation for "Love of the world". All is in the mind. As long as we are able to switch the ways to the way we treat others all sentient beings would be a friend.

Next, he talk about what how buddism can help one attain one life goal in the world.

A lot of people misunderstood buddhism as a pessimistic religion that is just looking for a way out, nothing can be more wrong than that. In fact, do anyone want to live to a ripe old age healthily? Do anyone want to have wealth? Do anyone wants to be intelligent and clever

Buddhism also teaches us about attaining things in life. However, attaining them is not about kneeling down and praying to the buddha. In fact to attain it, we must work for it. For to practise buddhism.

If you wish to be rich, you must give more money to the poor. If you wish to be clever, you must spread your knowledge and be selfless. If you wish to be pretty, smile more. These to some, might seem to be a bit mundane. But however, I believe that this is also an important core of buddhism.

Like a tree bearing fruit, it is only when we saw the beautiful flowers on the tree that we are able to believe that the fruits it bore will be delicious and sweet.(i.e. nirvana)

Similarly, it is only when we know that what buddhism teaches is correct, and experiences for ourself it effects that we really do believe that Buddhism can lead the way to nirvana

If we can treat all sentient beings equally, then can we be selfless, be more respectful.

Next, Chuan Xi Fa Shi has is also a good propogator of the dharma.

He started by saying about the culture of China. I must be proud to say that I am a chinese. For out of the 5 ancient civilisation of the world, chinese is the only civilisation that has endured to today. This is to say that we chinese must be doing something very right. =)

Of course, the answer to this question is a bit hidden in his speech, but let me try to disseminate it... (if I can)

Firstly, he pictorises a scene in which prince Siddhartha Gautama saw the cow being whip as it ploughs the field. And as the mud being unfold, worms were being unearth which were being eaten by the birds. The birds in turn would be eaten by the eagles

This in our time we would call it a food chain. However, when prince Siddhartha Gautama saw it, he thought that it would be very wrong. This cannot be right.

However, when another western philosopher thinks about this. He thought that this was right. Hey this is the survival of the fittest. And he spend many years to create a new theory on it.

This reflects a basic thinking of the difference of the two culture. Chinese culture in general, is one that practises more tolerance of the people while the western culture are not.

One major exemplification of this culture would be the gunpowder. The Chinese mainly uses it for celebration purposes. But the western uses it to make guns and weapons. The latter totally exemplifies the thinking of "Survival of the fittest"

However, before I deviate too much from the original content, let's go back. The Chinse, in their 5000 years of civilisation, never invaded another country. we have 5000 years of history to prove this. And I believe that this is a major reason why we do exist till now.

Let's look at Rome. They have a military history of success... However, Like a double edged sword, the notion of "Survival of the fittest" is a cruel notion. As Who is the fittest? No one can be the best forever. And human beings have an uncanny ability to micmic the actions of others and reflect it upon them.

1 same scene, 2 different notion. And this lead to 2 different conflicting cultures. The ability of one's attitude cannot be more exemplify.

Hence, linking back to the talk. If you treat all people as your friend, they will all be your friend. If you treat someone as your foe, he will be one.

Lastly, in the question and answer part, I love it when chuan xi fa shi talks about cause and effect.

Roughly translated, it would means

"All Dharma are empty except for Karma"

That is Karma is the driving force behind everything in the world. Just like a child playing with lego bricks, he can create a house. But is the house there?
No not really, the house is just make of lego bricks. He can take it apart.

To take another point, it is as to say a gold cup, gold spoon, gold fork and such. Yes, i have a cup, spoon and fork. But all of them are gold!

Modern Science has no doubt prove this notion more. In science, we know that all matters are make up of atoms, electrons, protons, quakes and such. However, the buddha know it so much long ago.

(It must be noted that love in this context is not in the narrow definition of love between a man and woman. I would rather say that it is pure, unattached love. That is unpolluted and unattached to the world and surrounding. A rough chinese proverb i guess would be: To treat all old folks with the due respect as you treat your grandparents and to treat all kids with due respect as you treat your own kids.)

I think i will post something about basic buddhism in my next post;) Until then cya ppl
